Helpful Links for Food Animal Veterinarians
To become better, you need to know how to do better.
There are organizations that were created to help veterinarians care for their patients as well as the human community. In addition to welfare, don’t forget the impact that the drugs we use can have on our industries and communities!
How can veterinarians practice better medicine?
With the help of organizations that monitor antimicrobial or chemical residues in the environment or food chain, or with regulatory bodies keeping watch. Some of these organizations are making tools public so that veterinarians can be more judicious and wise about drug choices and their plans for treatment of animals.
Here are just a few, and we will expand this list as we find additional useful resources:
- Food Animal Residue Avoidance Databank (FARAD)
- Food & Drug Administration Adverse Drug Reaction Information Database
- Food & Drug Administration Center for Veterinary Medicine (Regulates the manufacture and distribution of drugs and feed additives intended for animals)
- Medical Impact of the Use of Antimicrobials in Food Animals Transcripts of the WHO report
- VetMed Resource (Comprehensive source of information on all aspects of veterinary medicine with access to citations from CAB Abstracts, data sheets, CAB review articles, the Animal Health and Production Compendium.)
